RRIF minimum withdrawal
Once you convert an RRSP to a RRIF, you must withdraw at least a set percentage of the January 1 balance each year, starting the year after you open it. The percentage rises with age.
Assumptions
- Age 70 or under: factor = 1 ÷ (90 − age). Ages 71 to 94 use the CRA chart ("all other RRIFs" column); 95+ is 20%.
- No minimum is required in the year the RRIF is opened.
- Withdrawals happen at the start of each year; the schedule stops at 95.
